I had another committee meeting that went well. The work is coming along and now I just need to wrap prints up in the next few weeks then name and frame!

Keep in mind that these are mostly still works in progress. They’re probably change again before the show. Also they’re not photographed as well as I like, my fault though.

This one above is being traded for an etching by Graham Judd. Whoohoo.

This one is really blurry and I’m pretty sure the colors are still wrong. Actually, it looks down right awful in comparison to the real deal. Most of the ink I’m using has metallic sheen to it, so photographing and adjusting later has been a pain.

This one has an “Alice in Wonderland” fall down the tunnel feel.  Kind of trippy. Wolfdogghost is technically in there, but the layers obliterated him to be super transparent.

This one I mistakenly printed over a flipped version of the same figures and created a mirror of four figures. At first I thought it would be a throw away print, but I managed some recovery out of it.

I have more to show, but I’ll spread it out through the week. There’s not going to be much posts for this month since I got to prepare for the show and graduation. Work work work.

I reworked the image more in photoshop. Since people liked the image, I worked out the issues that I wasn’t pleased with, namely the symmetry. I think the figure  is better with three arms. She’s still insect-like and the three arms reinforces more of the trinity aspect of the figure.

I might fuss with the right hand more after it’s printed on film, but it’s nearly there.

The first committee meeting went well. The general vibe was to keep working and let the intuitive process flow. The prints shown are by no means finished. Some are more complete than others. Others look complete, but are far from done. I could go into more detail what needs to get fix, but I’ll spare the chatter. The prints are poster size and the process has been quick and rewarding. I’ve been having fun for the first time in a long while. It’s nice to remember what it’s like to be energized with art making and investigating content.

I’m silkscreening this semester and creating monoprints (wiki link for my folks) . Some of the prints have a painterly and tactile quality. There were seven prints presented, four I kept in my portfolio since they weren’t nearly as completed, and four prints at the studio that I just started. This was all done in two weeks. If I keep this up, I could feasibly have a decent thesis show on my hands!

I’ve been interning at an artist book center. It’s unpaid, but I only work one day and I consider it a treat more than anything. I get to spend the shift looking at different kinds of artist books, comics, and zines. I just think of it as scheduled research.<3

Anyway, all I do is begin the foundation of what will be their online catalog system for their library, something that would be functional for the public to use when they want to research for projects. It’s fun. I took some cameraphone photos of some of the books I see each week.

In other news, I miss my camera. It went defunct some weeks ago. Hopefully I’ll get a camera by the end of summer.  It’s essential to my blogging and some of my art process/documentation. I suppose in the meantime I’ll rely on scanning and taking photos of with my phone/laptop. Bah.

1. Refurbishing old books- This is a nice illustrated how-to to either bookmaking or rebinding a book that’s falling apart.

2.Chris Berens: “The White Ones”- one of my favorite contemporary artists right now. Some of his process is documented. I enjoy how much care he puts into the characters and their rendering.

3. Stella Im Hultberg’s moleskine sketchbook- I think after seeing this, I enjoy her sketchbooks more than her paintings. I’m drawn to her linework and less polished, more stream-of-conscious ideas.

4. If wikipedia was a bound book- This probably passed through the internet already, but I like the hilarity of this visual. I imagine it was a bookbinder’s nightmare.

5. Silhouette Masterpiece Theater- I’ve seen this often on FFFFound, but I enjoy the blend of comedy with the victorian silhouettes. Makes me wish I thought of it first.

6. Linomation- This is one of those pieces where I think I would pull my hair out at the idea of producing it. It’s an animation created with linoleum relief prints. Already, hand drawn animation can be a labor. Add to that carving and printing the individual prints as the animation frames and it seems to be three times the effort. Pure craziness.

I’ll try to add to this over the course of the summer and beyond. It’ll motivate me more to check up on my google reader.
