Periscope @meganfrau

from Instagram: http://ift.tt/1JpWhFm I’m on Periscope! Trying it out based on Kelly McKernan ‘s recommendation. Find me at the same username @meganfrau on periscope. I try to stream semi-regularly. It’s best to catch me through the notifications or you can follow me on twitter and I’ll push my streams through that site as well. The recorded streams only stick around for 24 hours, but it’s nice that you don’t have…

Inktober

October is Inktober on Instagram. I’m challenging myself to make an ink drawing everyday for the month of October. It is a nice way to break away from the long projects with immediate gratification. I will be sure to post the results on the blog, but in the meantime, you can find me on Instagram under meganfrau.

New Art: The Melissae

It’s hard to justify starting mini projects when I know I have several half-finished projects sitting around my studio at any given time. I start to feel like the artist equivalent of a fantasy book writer who takes years to complete the next book in an ongoing series (come on Winds of Winter, I’m dying here). However, I enjoy the immediate gratification of producing smaller works. Instant productivity! Artist level up…

New Art: Greek Floral Myths

The Greek myth are fascinating. The floral myths are no exception. Each floral myth is dedicated to an origin story of sorts to certain flowers: anemone, narcissus, and hyacinth (along with many others), with dark undercurrents. Human sacrifice, jealous love triangles, revenge schemes… all these stories end in blood as the birthing element for these flowers. I love the contrast of something delicate and beautiful coming from something dark…

Pinterest Inspiration: Teaching

I love Pinterest. It’s no secret that I gear it towards education purposes. Sometimes I find ideas on there, tweak them, and create whole new projects and lessons. Other times I just like to collect ideas that I find interesting, but have no particular purpose other than to share with my teaching friends (see my teaching board). With my summer art camp gig, I get to create classes and workshops…

Yours Truly: 100 Postcards for Humanity

One of the recent exhibitions I participated in was a postcard art show for the Human Rights Campaign, hosted by the Alexi Era Art Gallery, a new pop surrealism gallery in St. Louis, MO. Below you can see what the show was about, with pictures from the show (courtesy of the Alexi Era Art Gallery) Yours Truly: 100 Postcards for Human Rights is an awareness and fundraising exhibition for the…

What Happened? Let’s Catch Up!

Hello! I’ve been taking a break from the blog this past semester, but now summer is here. I want to return to the original platform that started this all. While social media is fun and easy to use, the website brings a necessary focus back to my portfolio work. Not to mention that keeping up with 5-10 other sites gets a little exasperating. I’ll still update them, but the main website…

End of the year progress

I have been playing catch up the last few weeks. This semester was brutal on time and art productivity, but I am more than making up for it during the winter break. Next semester should prove to be more productive in the studio with lots of positive directions and goal making for the 2014 work year. Here is a small batch of the work I started in the last two…

In The Studio: New Works In Progress

Here are a nice round of in progress work photos of projects I’m switching between this summer. It has been excited to finally have decent studio habits and steady work progress. No more slumps and creative hang ups, I think I’m on my way now!

New Art- Nothing Gold Must Stay

The Swoon Gallery will host an art exhibition called “Nothing Gold Must Stay” centering on the idea of using gold leaf in artwork. I have three artworks that will be in the show.
