I had another committee meeting that went well. The work is coming along and now I just need to wrap prints up in the next few weeks then name and frame!

Keep in mind that these are mostly still works in progress. They’re probably change again before the show. Also they’re not photographed as well as I like, my fault though.

This one above is being traded for an etching by Graham Judd. Whoohoo.

This one is really blurry and I’m pretty sure the colors are still wrong. Actually, it looks down right awful in comparison to the real deal. Most of the ink I’m using has metallic sheen to it, so photographing and adjusting later has been a pain.

This one has an “Alice in Wonderland” fall down the tunnel feel.  Kind of trippy. Wolfdogghost is technically in there, but the layers obliterated him to be super transparent.

This one I mistakenly printed over a flipped version of the same figures and created a mirror of four figures. At first I thought it would be a throw away print, but I managed some recovery out of it.

I have more to show, but I’ll spread it out through the week. There’s not going to be much posts for this month since I got to prepare for the show and graduation. Work work work.

My friend Emmy-Ray/ Emily Walters wrote a nice blog post about me. People like me!

I met Emily through Sage Dawson while I was technically subletting Emily’s room one summer. They were both in the printmaking program in undergraduate and I guess I followed their path. Emily has lately focused on her other studio emphasis, metals and jewelry making, and has been quite successful in that venture. Fun times on memory lane.

I reworked the image more in photoshop. Since people liked the image, I worked out the issues that I wasn’t pleased with, namely the symmetry. I think the figure  is better with three arms. She’s still insect-like and the three arms reinforces more of the trinity aspect of the figure.

I might fuss with the right hand more after it’s printed on film, but it’s nearly there.

“Master of Fine Art candidates Thomas Boyer, Galen David, Megan Frauenhoffer, Graham Judd, and Levi Murphy will be exhibiting their work in the inaugural show in Gallery 148 from January 20th to the 29th.  This, an exhibition of current MFA work, marks the first showcase, in recent memory, of MFA opus done at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. This show was organized to bring awareness to MCAD’s MFA program to both the undergraduates and patrons alike through the aid of a public and professional space that is Gallery 148.”

I spent yesterday setting up for the school exhibition. Tomorrow is the reception, along with two or three other school sponsored shows.

Graham Judd’s woodblock prints. Printmakers! Yay!

I put three of the collage/prints I made last semester. I’m itching to make new art. I’ve grown tired of constantly displaying/photographing this body of work. I want new prints to show! Hopefully this weekend will be the start of that.

In retrospect, I don’t think I would have had the determination if it weren’t for my mentor constantly supporting and challenging me. MCAD was the only school I researched into that had that unique learning experience attached to the curriculum. The school has it so that every graduate is partnered up with practicing artist in the area (and it’s a very artistic city, so lots of good choices).

Instead of going for a printmaking or even illustration mentor, I chose to be partnered up with Laura Stack, a painting and drawing mentor. She works with mixed media and although her type of work is fairly unrelated to my own (which is a good thing for me), it still has a graphic sensibility that I found in my own work. She’ll often bring ideas or critiques to meetings that often does not get brought up in my group critiques or with other teachers/visiting artists. Laura also helps me try to cope and with the school’s need to categorize myself into either fine arts or illustration, an issue she had to deal with in her own graduate school.

My next print is making headway. I finished carving into it the other night. Next step is to make a proof print and then printing is a go!

I refreshed my business card supply. I order mine off of Overnight Prints and usally get the cheapest rate or go with whatever sale they send me through their emails. I think I need to design my text sides on InDesign though, because it’s all jaggy, which is disappointing. I also opted out of the rounded corners to be cheap. However, the cards lack their…friendliness? I don’t know, but I went and used the corner rounder at school. Pleasant round corners again! Worst. Story. Ever.

Better story was that I felt mischievous and hid quite of few of the cards in the graduate studios. All the graduates will think I’m weird, but I had a good laugh.
