I had another committee meeting that went well. The work is coming along and now I just need to wrap prints up in the next few weeks then name and frame!

Keep in mind that these are mostly still works in progress. They’re probably change again before the show. Also they’re not photographed as well as I like, my fault though.

This one above is being traded for an etching by Graham Judd. Whoohoo.

This one is really blurry and I’m pretty sure the colors are still wrong. Actually, it looks down right awful in comparison to the real deal. Most of the ink I’m using has metallic sheen to it, so photographing and adjusting later has been a pain.

This one has an “Alice in Wonderland” fall down the tunnel feel.  Kind of trippy. Wolfdogghost is technically in there, but the layers obliterated him to be super transparent.

This one I mistakenly printed over a flipped version of the same figures and created a mirror of four figures. At first I thought it would be a throw away print, but I managed some recovery out of it.

I have more to show, but I’ll spread it out through the week. There’s not going to be much posts for this month since I got to prepare for the show and graduation. Work work work.

Okay, this makes me feel a little better. I’m finished (maybe) with another character for the prints. I’m calling it wolfdogghost. It’s like the wolf from Red Riding Hood or Three Little Pigs, but a more pathetic version. It kind of reminds me of my dog a little, only she gets pity because she’s beastly fat.

I’m seeing some similarities.

I don’t have concrete plans on my next few prints. This week I’m going to fix the ones that were shown and work on finalizing the thesis paper.  I messed with the scans on photoshop, but I’m not sure if anything fruitful will come out of the process. It’s certainly fun, but I’m not sure how fitting it is for the series. I might just have to go back and do some reading for fresh ideas to draw upon. It might just be a writing week with some studio visits for extra feedback.

I’ve been fixing scans of silkscreen mylars on photoshop. I’m hoping to make new stencils for printing by manipulating some of my pre-existing drawings. Essentially I’ve been drawing characters and then compiling them together onto a print to create a narrative. It’s more intuitive and less planned/structured than I’m used to, but I think it’ll work towards the content of personal narratives and fairy tale/psychology. This character was suppose to be a kind of Red Riding Hood with her hair becoming the hood, but she’s kind of coming off more like Cassandra in Greek mythology. Anyway, her pose slightly mimics the main figure in Edvard Munch’s The Scream, so I get to fit a little homage into the thesis show.

I think I’m going to start adding color again to the new pieces. Somehow. I think I might send one of these for a show in March. I’m going to try and figure out a cheaper way to frame the work. Maybe put it on mounted board or something? I don’t know. I’m going to revert to modest sized pieces after school is over, that’s for sure. Waaaaay easier to send to shows.

Castle Waiting: by Linda Medley

I have the nice hardbound version of this book. The story blends all the familiar folk tales as well as some obscure. It’s lighthearted and humorous. The drawing is also lovely and whimsical and does not fall into conventional comic book or manga stylings. You can get a short synopsis that’s better than anything I’ll write up on its wikipedia page.

Garfield Minus Garfield: webcomic, I guess.

Just as the title states. It’s the Garfield cartoon strip, minus Garfield, who is erased out with Photoshop. One of my graduate classmates told me about this site. Essentially, what you realize is that Jon Arbuckle is immediately transformed into something largely unnoticed when you take away the cat he “talks” to. The strips tend to get repetitive, but it’s worth at least reading thirty strips.

Combination of silkscreen/drawing monoprints (or mixed media depending how you want to define it). Completed the final semester.
